Cadillac SRX Rear Seat Table
RISD/MIT for General Motors
2004

In a studio sponsored by GM, a fellow RISD student and I teamed up with a group of MIT students to develop a rear seat tray table for the Cadillac SRX.

We decided to have the table fold out of the center arm rest instead of the rear seat.

Because the table would be used by both children and adults, we had to create a method by which the user could adjust the height and placement of the table. We machined the prototype out of aluminum and used elements from some caulking guns to create a ratcheting height adjustment. We separated the table from the mount, and when not in use the mount folds into the arm rest, while the tables could be placed in the map pocket.
